A magical, secluded romantic retreat, Hollow Heath Hideaway is a cosy and delightful cabin for two, which lies on the edge of the small village of Layer de la Haye.
Tucked away in the countryside, its remote setting provides you with maximum privacy and peace, something many other homes aren’t able to offer. Even so, the village pubs are walkable and Colchester is only around 10 minutes away by car.
Hollow Heath Hideaway oozes charm. It's carefully chosen fittings and fixtures give it a quirky feel that guests are sure to appreciate. It’s full of character and the open plan layout is spacious and luxurious, and has everything you could need for a wonderful stay.
At one end is a wonderful super king size four poster bed and gleaming copper bathtub. At the other end is the well equipped kitchen which boasts top quality appliances and extras including a coffee machine. The bathroom has a rainfall shower and heated towel rail, with toiletries, bath robes, towels and more supplied. Other features include a skylight, egg chairs, a firepit and alfresco Hot tub.
The quirky cabin is designed with a sort of fairy tale woodland theme in mind. When you step into the property, you’ll no doubt be impressed by the attention to detail and the creativity that’s gone into the look of the place. There are plenty of unique touches throughout that you’re sure to appreciate.
You may well be tempted to spend most of your time in this unique property, but there’s a lot to see both on your doorstep and further afield.
Take time to explore Layer de la Haye and the nearby city of Colchester. Head to the nearby Needle Eye Woods for invigorating woodland walks and take in the sights of the many ancient trees that can be found here.
Head to Colchester, see its surviving Roman walls and explore the high street with its many shops and restaurants. There’s also Mersea Island, where you can practise water-based activities such as paddle boarding, boating and free swimming.

Colchester Zoo – Set in 60 acres of picturesque parkland is Colchester Zoo, which is home to around 160 animal species. It’s over 60 years old and has a great reputation thanks to its animal collection, cleanliness, facilities and the extra experiences it offers.
Colchester City – With a heritage of over 2,000 years, the city of Colchester is a point of interest for history fans. It claims to have been the very first city in Britain and while it has its fair share of historical attractions, it also has many modern cultural sites and places to eat, drink and shop.
Wyvernwood – If you have young children with you, a visit to Wyvernwood is a must. This adventure park is themed to fantasy and encourages kids to take part in quests, solve puzzles and meet all sorts of characters.
Donkey and Buskins – A short distance from Heath Hollow Hideaway is Donkey and Buskins, a traditional, family-run pub serving classic dishes in a friendly setting.
The Layer Fox – Another local pub you may want to visit for a meal or round of drinks is The Layer Fox. It’s a historic property that dates back to the 16th century and has a quaint, cosy atmosphere.
