Woodlands Lodge Retreat, Llanarth, near New Quay

Woodlands Lodge Retreat is a lovely lodge park that offers the best of both worlds. Surrounded by woodland and with a tranquil, scenic valley setting, it is however  located close to the seaside gems of Newquay and Aberaeron. It’s particularly popular with dog owners thanks to the fact that the Retreat welcomes pets, with a dog supply shop – Waggy Tails – on site.

All of the lodges here are designed with guest comfort and satisfaction in mind. Each one is a relaxing and well-presented home away from home that serves as a convenient base from which to explore mid-Wales. The decor is tasteful and contemporary, and the amenities are plentiful. You’ll have all the appliances and fixtures necessary for a fantastic stay, with Smart TVs and electric fires among the highlights. The open-plan living, dining and kitchen area offers plenty of space, with the kitchen coming fully equipped. Outside, there’s a decking area with furniture where you can unwind after a day of activities.

Go on leisurely walks and admire the views of the valley and the wooded hills surrounding it. A short drive away you’ll find New Quay and Aberaeron, two seaside villages that are delightful places to visit thanks to their beautiful coastal settings and their collection of artisan shops and independent eateries. If you’re bringing your dog, you’ll be pleased to know that there are several dog-friendly beaches nearby.

Internal Fire Museum of Power – A short drive away is this interesting museum where you can learn all about steam and combustion engines. Pay a visit and see a wide variety of engines that have powered devices of all sizes and purposes.  

Clerkenhill Adventure Farm and Frisbee Golf Course – Just over an hour away is this attraction, which makes for a great day out. See all kinds of animals, go on pleasant walks along some trails and practise family-friendly activities such as frisbee golf and pedal go-karting.

Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips – depart from New Quay and offer the chance to spot seals, seabirds dolphins and more.

Eating Out

The Pepper Pot Bar and Grill – Located in central New Quay right by the coast is this popular restaurant and bar. It’s a contemporary, informal venue with a menu featuring plenty of delicious options and lots of wine pairings and beers too.

Penrhiwllan Inn – A family-run pub with both indoor and outdoor seating. Offers plenty of tasty food options along with a broad selection of refreshing drinks.
